Here's our most recent update on the progress of Casa Albert, with thanks to the assistant project manager, Jon Harris.

Progress:

We can't quite believe it. It doesn't seem like long ago that we made the decision to pull down the old building on the site of Casa Albert. Even less time since we signed the contract to install the foundations. It's been a real test of faith in God's provision, but look at how far he's brought us together.

There has been a three-week delay to the walls, which is hardly anything, considering the scale of the works involved and the 'exceptionally inclement weather' that Bacau has experienced.

We hope to complete the walls, with the roof timbers and boarding by 28 November. When this is completed, the roof covering can be installed on 05 December (please see supporters page - for information on Angus Charlton, our friend who is assisting with the roof costs and installation).

We're exploring possibilities of donations of building materials from UK based companies who also operate in Eastern Europe. We hope to up-date you with progress on this situation as soon as we can.

We received a very good price from our builder, Mr Anghel, to install the external windows and doors, however, this offer must be accepted soon to ensure the low supply costs for materials.

We have decided to take a step of faith and instruct these works now and so, we need £12,000 by the end of January 2006.

We felt that it was necessary to install the windows and roof before the snow set in to waterproof the building and ensure that the site was secure so that we can cease works until we have the available money to continue with the building services.

We have received the following prices for the up-coming works - work for which we need funds:

- The external insulation and render finish - £8,500
- The heating and hot water installation - £19,000
- The electrical installations, including lights and power - £25,000

We have not entered into contract on any of the above three items, however, we really do want to continue to progress with the construction of this project at this pace. We're desperate to turn our attentions to setting up the care service for the children that we're serving through Casa Albert as soon as we can.

If you feel that you would like to donate funds towards either of these building elements, please let us know, or visit our How to Help - Donate page.

Jon Harris and Steve Cooper - 21 November 2005.
